Data entry is basically the process of entering data from one place into another place. For example, a company may have
a hand written or printed document which they need entered into a computer program or a database. So,
data entry would be the process of entering in this data into an easier to use format so that the company
or person can better use it.
Say, for example, that a company hands out forms to thousands of people
asking them to fill in their name, and email address. The company would then need someone to do data entry if they
wanted to add these people's names and email addresses into a computer database. Data entry is also common with spreadsheets,
whereas a company will want a mass of information from a given source entered into a spreadsheet.
People who excel at data entry are often very detailed oriented. If you are a relaxed and patient individual, data entry may be
something that you enjoy. Also, if you can type fast and have a lot of experience with several keystrokes, then you will be
more successful at data entry.
At the end of the day, when a company pays you to do data entry they look for you to get it done quickly and correctly. So,
provided that the data is entered in the correct format, companies will look to see how much you can get done in a given hour.
Since companies usually pay data entry by the hour,
the faster you work, the greater benefit the company will see from you; and potentially, there will be a greater amount that the
company would be willing to pay you, per hour of data entry.
Many work from home companies offer data entry opportunities but not many of them are legimate. However, many companies
do look to people to help them with data entry tasks. As opposed to going through a middle man that may make you pay for the
right to see data entry opportunities, you may want to
consider searching for these types of jobs online and contact companies directly. Finding a quality data entry position can be
challenging, but once you
do find a data entry position, you can get paid for your work and sometimes one data entry job will lead into more data entry
jobs with a respective company.
